A Mesa museum is getting national recognition.
The Mesa Historical Museum is being commended with a national award for general excellence in exhibits, resource management, and public programming by the American Association for State and Local History, a Nashville-based nonprofit.
This is the 63rd year since the award was instituted. This year, 57 organizations and individuals nationwide are being recognized, according to a news release.
According to its Web site, the association is the only comprehensive national organization dedicated to state and local history.
Kaia Landon , curator of education at the Mesa museum said they will receive a plaque in September.
“It’s a pretty big deal,” Landon said. “This award isn’t even given out every year. so it’s pretty exciting.”
Earlier this year, the museum also was commended for excellence with the 2008 Museum Association of Arizona Professional Award of Recognition.
