Mesa High to host concert to honor Veterans Day

Mesa High School will present a tribute to Veteran’s Day featuring drama, orchestra, band and choir students at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the auditorium at 1630 E. Southern Ave., Mesa.

The tribute includes a concert, interviews, pictures of those in the service and a special Air Force Junior ROTC salute. This program is designed to leave those in attendance with a sense of honor and respect for all the veterans who have given so much.

Mesa students earn AP honors

One hundred sixty three Mesa Public Schools students and graduates from Mountain View and Red Mountain High schools received Advanced Placement Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams.

AP Scholars received grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. ASU Band Day

The Mesa Public Schools’ high school marching bands brought home more honors from this year’s ASU Band Day than any other district in Arizona.

Oct. 18 included a Ratings Festival during the day and the Sun Devil Showdown competitive festival in the evening. There was a national judging panel.

Adult classes Open House at MCC

For Valley adults interested in continuing their educational pursuit, a 300-plus member group has an avenue coming up at Mesa Community College.

New Frontiers for Lifelong Learning, “a peer-led, self–directed organization” has classes on anything from computers to photography and history. The group also hosts concerts, hiking trips and other tours. There’s an annual membership fee.

Classes are held at MCC’s main campus at Southern Ave. and Dobson Road and at the Red
Mountain campus at Power and McKellips roads. A few other sites also are in place.

For more information, the group is hosting an Open House.
